Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 is the market leader in the enterprise messaging and collaboration market. Exchange Server 2013 builds upon the Exchange Server 2010 architecture and has been redesigned for simplicity of scale, improved hardware utilization, and increased failure isolation. Exchange Server 2013 brings a rich set of technologies, features, and services to the Exchange Server product line. Its goal is to support people and organizations as their work habits evolve from a communication focus to a collaboration focus. At the same time, Exchange Server 2013 helps lower the total cost of ownership.
This document describes the reference architecture for a virtualized implementation of Microsoft® Exchange Server 2013 that is based on Lenovo® servers and IBM® Storwize® V3700 storage. The intended audience of this document is IT professionals, technical architects, sales engineers, and consultants to assist in planning, designing, and implementing Microsoft Exchange Server 2013.
This reference architecture targets organizations that are implementing Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 in a virtual environment that uses Microsoft Hyper-V®. The solution that is described in this document provides a site resilient, highly available, clustered infrastructure that is running in two data centers with each data center having a 3-node Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) cluster. Each cluster uses the Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor and is based on Lenovo servers and networking combined with IBM Storwize shared storage.
